Go Green! Environmentally Friendly Lawn Care

Wexford Environmental Committee

Thank you for maintaining a beautiful yard.

Go Green and Help Fight Cancer!

Think about it. According to research done at the Univ Cal. at Berkeley, children exposed to pesticides in home & yard (including weed killers and no pest strips), were up to 3 times more likely to get leukemia compared to children that were not exposed to pesticides in their homes. See Family Circle Magazine 5/18/04 p.108. Pesticide use in the yard and around the home has been linked to higher rates: breast, prostate, brain cancer, leukemia, lymphoma! Also to Parkinson’s Disease, and asthma!

  • Eliminate or reduce manmade weed killers (pesticides) & insecticides (pesticides). Organic fertilizers (RINGER or ESPOMA) are better for the environment.
  • ( For information go to www.beyondpesticides.org)
  • Legal for sale is not a guarantee of your long-term health & safety!
  • Termites: Pay for regular inspections instead of regular pesticide applications.
  • Use SPOT TREAT ONLY method on weeds when using weed-killer. Watch out for perfectionism! Dig up your weeds with a shovel or use a vinegar/water mixture.
  • For Japanese beetle grubs, use Milky Spore instead of insecticides. Insecticides are not needed at all on your lawn.
  • Organic Lawn Care is growing at 5% a year. Even the Soccer Moms are into it. Why not be part of this new Trend! NYTimes 2006
  • For fleas, use cedar chips, frequent baths, vacuuming.
  • Cedar mulch helps keep insects away. A bird feeder keeps insects away.
  • Help us to reduce health care costs.
